This is a great chapter for using videos as inspiration. Pg. 186 has some awesome video recommendations.
*Have skaters in your midst? Check out this Exploratorium link. Skate or die, dude.
*Balancing activity (pg. 191) - You could easily turn this into a competition and a way for kids to learn balance before going out on an actual skateboard. Make your own balance board - similar to the one shown on the right.
Another website for inspiration? Science Kids. If this doesn't inspire something in you, well maybe you should skip this chapter :) - they have a nice sports science fact page where you could get ideas for passive or active trivia programs!

*Make mini-basketballs (pg. 188). Have an alternate activity (like the pom-poms) for those who aren't in to making basketball hoops.
*Reaction time (pg. 191) - See how fast your reaction time is. Also could be turned into a competition.
*Pipe cleaner snowboarders (pg. 194) - use the pipe-cleaner ninja as a tutorial. Stick a popsicle stick to the feet and viola! Snowboarder! I did this last summer and discovered this craft works better with older kids.
*Make paper footballs - this is in the teen manual (pg. 102) but you could do this activity with upper elementary kids. Instructables.com has a pretty thorough walk through on how to make these, but chances are, one of your kids is already an expert on this.
