Adults

The adults at your library are just like you. Do things that you think are fun and they will think they're fun too. Keep in mind that "adult" is a broad category with many different ages and lifestyles. Don't get discouraged if your attempts aren't well received at first. You know your community better than anyone!

Adults 20 - 30

Here is a list of fun things for our "new adults".
Game Night -
You can take the list from the teen section and apply it to this group. Try adding in NSFW games like Cards Against Humanity.
Date Night -
Host a date night for couples at your library. Dinner and a movie, anyone?
Movement Programs -
Yoga, kickboxing, tai chi, all great ideas.

Adults the olders

This group is crafty. And probably retired.
Knitting Circles -
This can take a few different forms, but most communities will have knitter, quilters, or crocheters.
Learn to Dance -
Teach different styles of dance.
Retro Exercise -
Richard Simmons. Enough said.
Recipe Swap -
Have your patrons bring in their favorites and share.

Adults 30 - 60

Think of this group as your parents. They would probably appreciate family friendly activities. But they would also like a night off too.
Movie Nights -
Family friendly movies for all!
Community Walk -
Sponsor a community walk and highlight all your city has to offer: parks, historic sites, and especially libraries. You could also make this into a story walk!
Wine/Beer Tasting -
These have been very popular lately. Make sure to get all of the proper permission before hosting something like this.

All Groups

All adults are busy. But they still like to have fun. Here are some things to try.
Experience Zones -
Put little activities or displays in your library that adults can do when they are there.
Book Clubs -
Just remember that not everyone will want to read the same book, but everyone will like book clubs. Try reading different books for the different adult age groups.
Author Talks -
Bring in authors to speak to adult groups. This seems daunting, but many authors will Skype. Try local authors too! There are also grants for this sort of thing if you are worried about funding.
Community Potluck -
The library is the heart of the community and food is the way to everyone's heart.
